Houdini’s is home to one other game in the same building, an Alcatraz themed story that I believe is way harder than the Titanic one and there’s also another branch elsewhere in the Southampton area with one called Extinct, based on dinosaurs, which we (the same group, but this one has a max. On April 10th 1912 the largest ship ever build left Southampton on her maiden voyage. The game itself had been cleverly and artistically put together and I would recommend for others to give this one a go, maybe just with a smaller team. I kept feeling like the bits I was trying to figure out would then be taken over by someone else, which I know the idea of the game is to do it as quick as possible – but I’d still like an element of fun to be left in it by letting me actually do something… It’s located slightly out of the centre, which meant parking. When the venue had first opened, I’d assumed it would start off with a game inspired by Harry Houdini himself, but instead they’d opted for a prison break: Escape from Alcatraz. I need a bit of space to be able to think and you just don’t get that with lots of you. It was a small space for six of us but we all played a part at solving the various clues that would get us to the next bit of the story and the game (no spoilers here). We were rescued from the dining hall and taken back to our cabin (“oh my god, it looks like a real ship hallway!) where our tasks were to begin. Suddenly we were thrust from our first class comfort, on board the RMS Titanic, when the unsinkable ship struck an iceberg and began to take on water. After signing our lives away and relinquishing Houdini’s of any responsibility in case of death (…I still don’t know whether this was for dramatic effect or not…) and being offered to use the Room for Requirement – the one toilet I wish I had taken photos in with all its Harry Potter paraphernalia! We were then shown the way to start our game.įirst task: grab a lifejacket, some skittles and a bag of popcorn and settle in for a little film to get the game going.
